Richard Kieley

A Registered Architect with more than 30 years of architectural experience, Richard has focused his career on residential design, placemaking and a sensitivity to creating spaces for seniors. Richard is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), including the inaugural Design for Aging (DFA) committee of the Cleveland Chapter. Richard is also a member of the Architectural Review Board of the city of University Heights, Ohio.

Richard started his career in South Florida in the mid-1980s before moving to Ohio in 1997. Richard has been a leader behind new and innovative approaches such as managing one of the first senior living projects to fully utilize Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), methodology

Master planning involved a comprehensive study of its two campuses, followed by the first phase new model for memory care which includes nine specialized households with 11 private rooms. EmpathiCare Village allows agingin-place to reinforce rhythms of daily living in an authentic environment.

Replacing an existing community, the new Life Plan Community represents a progressive move for Baptist Life Communities in how they deliver care, incorporating a significant short-term rehab unit and associated health and wellness center, which positions them to partner with local hospital providers. The new campus also provides for dedicated memory care for both assisted and skilled care residents and provides for a future phase on independent living and community programming.

The master plan for this 73-acre Life Plan Community, a Lifespace Community, in suburban Pittsburgh involved a new Wellness Center and alternative dining options along with improvements to the existing health center.

As part of an existing senior apartment building, the new 15,000 sf amenity center will include a fitness center, meeting room, cafe, beauty/barber shop, creative expression room, and library.

Greenfields of Geneva Geneva, Illinois
A new Life Plan Community sited on 26-acres, consisting of 200 independent living suites, 48 assisted living, 24 unit special care, and 40 skilled care apartments. The first floor
features amenities including a library, health club, spa and salon, shopping, full-service and casual dining venues.

Friendship Village of Schaumburg Schaumburg, Illinois
Repositioning a 30-year old Life Plan Community for growth adding 170 independent living suites over a 65,000 sf wellness center.


Kendal at Granville Granville, Ohio
A 130-acre Life Plan Community based on the town planning concept with clusters of 12-resident neighborhood “houses” and the community center designed as “shops” along Main Street, with a café, library, fitness areas and more located below apartments on the upper floors.
